Physical distancing is one of the most effective ways we can combat COVID-19. This has been emphasized without limit. However, as the world eases lockdown, with football leagues returning around the world, now isn’t the time to rest on our oars.
You still need to maintain physical distancing as much as you can and Sodar is here to help you. An AR experiment created by Google, Sodar makes use of AR technology to help you maintain a distance of 2 meters from the person next to you.
This measure (2 meters distance – 1 meter officially, but two is the charm) according to the WHO keeps you safe from being infected with the virus. And since we are always with our phones, it’s only right that Google comes in to intervene.
According to the report, there is no statement on whether there is a restriction on mobile compatibility. All that is needed is for your phone to run the latest version of Google Chrome (As noticed when I decided to test it out).
Sodar – use WebXR to help visualise social distancing guidelines in your environment. Using Sodar on supported mobile devices, create an augmented reality two meter radius ring around you. #hacktohelp https://t.co/Bu78QrEN9f pic.twitter.com/kufatNFDQk

Once you have the latest version, log on to sodar.withgoogle.com, and click on launch. Point your phone towards the ground for it to make a few seconds of reading. Voila, the AR guide of 2 meters appears. Just as it is in these images from my Samsung Device. However, this tool is only available for android devices.
