Earlier this week, we got the news that the Twitter account of Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter was hacked. The hacking happened to be a very simple procedure. If it had been another user’s account that got hack through the same procedure, I bet Twitter wouldn’t be placing so much attention. But we are talking of the CEO of the platform here. So, no more tweeting via text.
The account had been compromised via a system called CloudHopper, as reported by the New York Times. Over the years, there have been issues raised on the risk involved in connecting one’s Twitter account’s tweet timeline to phone numbers. Twitter wouldn’t do anything about it, not until the CEO got hacked.
By the way, this got me thinking. Does that mean that Buhari will only take drastic action against Xenophobia when a close relative of his is affected? Just by the way.
Twitter promises to bring back the service soon in areas with huge dependence on the service. But, we remain in the oblivion of what “soon” means on Twitter. Facebook said “soon” with the Facebook dating service, and it took over a year before it launched in the US. What does “soon” mean with Twitter. I guess only time will tell.
