There is no doubt that the presence of Facebook in the running of Instagram, and WhatsApp has actually expanded those companies and made them into what they are today. However, shouldn’t there be a limit to what the FB execs could do? Well, Facebook bought both companies, and it really wants you to know that they run both.
More often than not, people forget that Facebook actually owns both IG and WhatsApp, and Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t seem to be cool with that. He wants you to know that he runs both, hence, there would be a change of name of both companies. Not only Instagram and WhatsApp would be experiencing this change, even Oculus. It is safe to say that all products under the umbrella of Facebook would undergo this change.
The new names would look like this, “Instagram from Facebook” and “Whatsapp from Facebook”. According to a spokesperson from Facebook, “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.”
Whether this is a step in the right direction remains cloudy, as you well know, Facebook is tied to a lot of privacy issue, which has raised concerns in recent times. There are so many issues up to the sleeve of Facebook and I don’t think it is just right that the company is rubbing it in our faces that they own the chunk of our social media. Well, we are in Mark’s world.
When you check playstore and Apple store soon, the names will be displayed as “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook”. For now, the icons might not show this, but when you open the apps, these names will likely pop up on your screen.
