Just in case you didn’t know, Amazon in November 2017, bought and confirmed the global television rights for “The Lord of the Rings”. Hence, Amazon owns every intellectual property and broadcast right of the Movie. The Lord of the Rings is a card Amazon is wanting to play to enter big into the movie industry.

In recent times, movies are hitting and breaking Box office, which is proof that there is big money in the movie industry. Game of Thrones, Avengers, Money Heist, amongst others are movies that made/ is making a ton of movie from viewership. Jeff Bezos wants his share, and he’s investing big upfront.
Now, with Lord of the Rings, AmazonStudios plans to make a prequel (before) series to the movie, depicting the age before the actual set of the movie. The prequel series is set to be staged in the Second Age of Middle earth. Speculations from AmazonStudio claims the series might debut in 2021, but there are some involved parties that want it by 2020.

With respect to casting, just one Actress has been confirmed so far, though her role is not disclosed. Australian actress Markella Kavenagh has actually been added to the show. However, we can’t be sure if she is acting as an elf or a Human, or any other being in the series. There is every possibility that you don’t know this actress prior to now, same here, however, I’m very sure that before the movie is done, she would be a star. We talking about Lord of the Rings here, you know!
Behind the scenes
The first two episodes of the series are set to be directed by J.A Bayona, who directed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Writers would be led by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, while other members include, Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking bad) and Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones). Bayona is also going to be the producer of this series, alongside Belen Atienza.

The series, according to reports will be set in thousands of years before the history of middle earth.
This is confirmed when Amazon released the map of Middle earth, in which the movie is set to be done. There were various landmarks that were revealed in the map, all basically hundreds of years before the birth of Aragorn.
The proposed setting was explained briefly by a Twitter user, Tolkienthot:
Amazon subsequently confirmed this assessment.
The very first map by Amazon was released in February, then there was a subsequent thread which had a link for people to explore more on the map.

According to the new head at AmazonStudios, Jennifer Salke, there is so much to expect from the series. Amazon has so much action-packed for years ahead, and The Lord of the Rings is one. According to the Studio head, the company is currently in talks with Peter Jackson, however, there is no concrete decision on what role he would play in the movie as it debuts in less than 2 years from now.
The making of the series would cost Amazon over $1billion, and it is meant to have 5 seasons in all. Roughly $200 million to be spent per season (Isn’t that the amount spent on one of the hit Marvel’s movies? Am I being mistaken?). Anyways, production is meant to begin within the next 2 years. This shows that Amazon is putting the foot on all gas to get things going.
The director of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchise will possibly be in the show, but it would be up to him to decide. Either he is part or not, the show will go on.
Jeff Bezos was personally involved in negotiations to get the rights for the movie, and according to him, he hopes the movie becomes the next “Game of Thrones.” The purchase of the rights is reported to have cost about $200 to $250 million.
AmazonStudios has done fairly well since it was established, but it has yet to produce a must-see series like HBO’s Game of Thrones or Netflix’s stranger things. Let’s hope they do well with it.
Do you think “Lord of The Rings” can be the next “GoT”?
