WORLD CUP: Senegal to break the African trend

Disappointing is the only word that cuts as close as defining the Africa experience in the ongoing mundane in Russia.

The first Africans to play were Egypt, who played without their star man Salah and gave a good account of themselves till the last minute when they conceded an avoidable free-kick, which resulted in their opponents, Uruguay’s goal hereby losing one nil.

Following suit was Morocco’s loss to Iran in a match many considered the Africans as favorite to win. Unfortunately Morocco will also follow Egypt’s example conceding a late goal, this time an own goal to hand Africa their second 1 – 0 loss in Russia.

The Nigerians were next, with their outstanding uniform and well pronounced arrival, one would think they had be cool headed to at least escape with a draw in match that was considered a difficult one, but then again they would concede an own goal and gift their opponents a penalty to end the game 2 – 0 in favor of their opponents Croatia.

There is no excuse for Tunisia’s loss to England, we have seen so called under dogs take the fight to their statistically superior teammates and come out with a win or at the least a draw, Tunisia looked like they were ready to join those so called underdogs to escape with a draw and end Africans run of losses in Russia, but just like their other African brothers another ninety minute strike would give England a 2 – 1 win over the Africans.

Senegal is the last Africa team to participate in this year’s showpiece of sixty four games, will they break the trend as they face the Lewandowski led Poland or give in just like their fellow continent teams.
