The day Musa became a Legend

Africa have always been known to be at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to everything good, including soccer and even at this year’s world cup finals. But today while it looked like African’s third

representative in Russia might as well go pack their bags like their brothers before, Ahmed Musa stood up like the warrior he is gallantly rescuing Africa and his countryreviving hope a fresh.

There are very few moments when anybody feels proud to say I am Nigerian and African, trust me, after Musa’s astonishing display, today is one of those times.

Ahmed Musa struck both goals as Nigeria boosted their World Cup qualification hopes with a 2-0 defeat of Iceland, a result that is also good news for Argentina.

Musa was left out of Nigeria’s loss to Croatia but he justified his recall to the side with the opening goal shortly after the interval at the Volgograd Arena on Friday.

The forward controlled a cross from Victor Moses and thumped an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net, with Musa becoming the Super Eagles’ top scorer in the history of the tournament courtesy of his third World Cup goal.

Nigeria were poor in the first half – failing to record a single shot – but they were much improved after the break, Musa adding another to his personal tally in the 75th minute as Iceland’s rock-like resilience crumbled.

After Gylfi Sigurdsson missed a late penalty, Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side could be heading home from their first World Cup unless they beat already qualified Croatia and Argentina do not take three points against Nigeria, although goal difference could yet come into .

For Africa football, a new hero and legend has risen in Ahmed Musa, the only African player to score a brace at two different world cups, and for Nigeria football, he has also made history.

Nigerians would agree that Musa couldn’t have picked a better time to display and lift the spirit of Nigerians that have been battered to frustration that seems to know no end by the Buhari led administration.

Though the display by the Nigeria delegation in Russia does not bring an end to the clueless leadership of the country, but it is a welcome break.
